The National Trust, Gwynedd County Council and The Countryside Council for Wales have been carrying out a policy of killing the Wild goats of Snowdonia. This has been happening since November 2006. They are proposing to start the slaughter again later this year . Animal Aid Wales and Freshfields Animal Rescue ,with full support of other animal wefare groups have recently presented The National Trust with a petition of over 1600 signatures of local residents ,and visitors to the area who are opposed to this killing. The reason for the slaughter given by these authorities is that the goats are chewing bark off some trees and strangely enough that they are a hazard on the roads. Of the hundreds of people we have interviewed over the last few weeks only about 20% have seen a goat and hardly anyone has seen one on the road. and 99% are against this slaughter. Many National Trust members on learning of the actions of this so called conservation body are so appalled at their actions that they have stated their intention is cancel their membership. These goats are no hazard on the roads and have lived in the area for hundreds of years and are a traditional feature. If you wish to protest and save these goats from becoming extinct like many other of our species , please write to THE DIRECTOR.NATIONAL TRUST, TRINITY SQUARE,LLANDUDNO,LL30 2DE........THE LATEST NEWS AS REPORTED IN THE LIVERPOOL DAILY POST. Volunteers are being sought for a day of gorse clearing at the Hafod Garegog national nature reserve near Beddgelert.Conservationists want to expose heather so thast sheep can be brought in to graze the site,so providing suitable breeding habitat for the Silver-studded Blue butterfly.Doug Oliver of The Countryside Council for Wales said sheep grazing in the autumn keeps the heather in breeding condition for butterflies. Why are the these same people slaughtering wild goats because they graze, and yet they are bringing sheep in to do the same thing.
