School Summer Holiday Plans - added
3.6.07, updated 5.6.07
The Saturday morning sessions keep going throughout the summer, though we
realise that the number of swimmers in any session is likely to be lower than
during the rest of the year. The evening sessions finish with the last
session on Thursday 5th July (lifesaving 4th July). From the 2nd of August, after this summer
break, the evening squads will have a weekly session on Thursdays, with the
Juniors and Improvers in 6-7.30 and the Development Squad in 7.30-9.30. We
should be back to our usual times once the School holidays are over, ie from 21
August.

poolside.
Helper & Teacher Course
- added 25.11.06
In the New Year (starting 11 January) we are running a short
"Poolside Helper" course with tutor Gina Logan. This is a great way for those
who are interested in helping teach swimming to improve their skills and
knowledge. Would those interested please sign up on the club board? Shortly
after this we hope to run an Assistant Teacher course, again with Gina tutoring.
This means that the Thursday and Saturday sessions 11-20 January will include
times with swimmers being involved in the course. The helpers teaching the
swimmers will be supervised by experienced tutor Gina Logan.
AGM 13 November -
added 20.11.06
The annual general meeting of the club was held as announced below. We
discussed the success of the swimmers at various levels and the fun social

the coming year, decided to adopt the new SASA-recommended constitution, and
elected an enlarged committee. The club's officers remain the same.

press.
Eric Muir Memorial Gala -
added 1.9.06- updated 10.9.06
This relays gala was on Saturday 9 September at Cupar. There was a great spirit at this event, which commemorates the huge input that
Eric Muir made to the swimming club. We were
pleased to welcome the MenziesHill-Whitehall club from Dundee and Step Rock from
St Andrews. There were some very close races, and during these the
cheering around the pool reached amazing levels. Step Rock won the gala
and keep the trophy for the coming year. We are pleased that Margaret Muir
was the referee for the event; she was presented with a bouquet of flowers by
the current club president Lesley Jayasekera. Thanks to the visiting
teams, all the technical officials, and all the swimmers.

good team spirit on poolside throughout the events.

AGM 13 November -
added 1.9.06
The annual general meeting of the club will be held on the evening of Monday 13
November. We encourage as many as possible of parents/carers of our
swimming members to come along. We have real problems if we do not have
enough people there to make a quorum. As well as a brief review of the
year, looking at the auditors' report on the accounts, and electing the
committee for the coming year, we will this year be seeking your approval for a
new constitution based on the model that the Scottish Amateur Swimming
Association require us to use.
Web Site -
added 1.9.06
The club's web site was unavailable last weekend due, we are told, to problems
at the site that was hosting our pages. We have now moved to a new server,
though the same
www.cuparswimmingclub.co.uk web address should still get to the pages.
Fife Leagues -
added 27.8.06 updated 5.9.06
The club was pleased to have a good number of members swimming in the Fife
Novice League and the Fife League galas today. There were numerous
personal best times recorded, some showing tremendous improvements. A

Novice League for the year.
Fife Leagues

Our swimmers did well in the Leagues this year, with 102 swims in
the Novice League producing 85 personal best times and 22 speed-flashes. We were
delighted to win the Geordie Wotherspoon trophy, which is the culmination of the
Novice League. The Fife League swimmers also did well.
Congratulations to all involved.
Normal Timetable -
added 19.8.06, updated 27.8.06
Now that the local schools are back, our club

back after their summer break, and welcoming new members.
Fife Leagues -
added 19.8.06
On Sunday 27 August we will have teams at both parts of the Fife Leagues in
their competitions in Glenrothes. Please would swimmers check the notice
board, and if they have been selected tick off or cross out depending on their
availability?
More Sessions for rest of summer vacation -
added 4.8.06
Thursday evening sessions are now available again for the evening squad
swimmers. The Junior and Improver squads have a combined session 6 - 7.30,
followed by the Development Squad. Once the schools go back, we return to
the usual timetable. The Saturday morning sessions continue through the
summer. We realise that numerous people will not be able to make sessions
because they are away etc, but we look forward to seeing people when they are
able to make it along.
Summer timings -
added 26.6.06 - updated 5.7.06
Saturday morning swimming sessions will carry on throughout the summer, and
relevant members are invited to come along when they can. The evening squads
will have their last session on Friday 7 July. There will be no evening
swimming club sessions until 3 August (not the earlier date put here and on some
announcement slips earlier, sorry), when we will reopen for the Thursday
evening sessions only. During the rest of the school break the Thursday
sessions will run 6-7.30 for Juniors and Improvers, and 7.30-9.30 for the
Development squad. The other evening sessions will start up again from 22
August, when the Thursdays will run their usual times again. We hope everyone
has a good summer.
Fun gala 30 June -
added 26.6.06, updated 5.7.06
Our annual "fun gala" was held on 30 June. The large number of
club members of all abilities were divided up into five teams, and competed in a
wide range of relay races. Each relay team consisted of eight swimmers,
each of whom swam one length. And while things started off with a
conventional front crawl relay, we also had a "haggis" relay, pushing a football
relay, tee-shirt relay, obstacle course relay, and many more fun events.
If the volume of the encouragement cheers from the poolside were anything to go
by, it seems to have been a great success.
Parental Success -
added 26.6.06
Congratulations to the parents who attended the timekeepers course recently; all
seven passed and are now club timekeepers. Thanks to all those parents who help
out on poolside, man the club table, officiate at galas, and help out at the
social events and with the committee and other work. The club keeps going only
because these people are willing to volunteer their time to take on these
various roles.
Next Committee Meeting -
added 26.6.06
Our next committee meeting is planned for after the summer, on 21 August.
Zap zone and bowling -
added 26.6.06
Our recent outing with primary-school aged swimmers to the Zap Zone and Bowling
in Dundee seemed to go down very well with all those involved.
Fife Leagues21 May -

Our team members put in some memorable swims at the Novice and Senior Fife
Leagues at Glenrothes again. Numerous personal best times were broken.

coming weeks these are 3 June Butterfly, 10 June front crawl, 17 June

presented the boys aged 13 and over trophy for the Fife Leagues to the Cupar
team members – Jack, Conar, Connor, Andrew, and Kyle.
Distance Championships Presentation -
added 29.5.06
Trophies were also presented at the Quiz night for the distance championships

winners were Katie, Alasdair, Yvonne, Ross, Alexandra, Connor, Nicola, Conar,
Rachel, Andrew, Kirstie, and Jessica.
Galas Saturday 6 May -
added 29.5.06
The two 6 May galas saw some fantastic swims. At Preston Pans many of the
team swum personal best times, some by huge margins. Chief coach Lesley
Jayasekera was very impressed, commenting "It was great to see the swimmers
achieve such tremendous improvements in their time; it shows what a difference
their hard work in training is making. It was also acted as a good team
building outing for swimmers of all abilities in the club, with these
improvements in tiem being undoubtable confidence boosters for all the
swimmers." The team that travelled to Kirkcaldy also did well.
This friendly gala was with Kirkcaldy A and B, Dunfermline, and Kinross.
For some swimmers this was their first ever gala, and they entered into it with
determination and enthusiasm. We came third overall in this gala.
Galas Saturday 6 May -
added 4.5.06
This Saturday we have two galas on. One is the East District Time Trials
at Preston Pans. The bus for the team will leave from Cupar Sports Centre
at 10.30 am. The warm up starts at 1.15, and the session is expected to
run through to 4.00. The bus will then travel back to Cupar. We also
have a friendly gala at Kirkcaldy, where swimmers and their families are asked
to use their own transport. Please check the noticeboard and please would
those who have been selected indicate whether or not they can swim?
Family Quiz Night -
added 4.5.06
All club members and their families are invited to the annual family quiz night
on Friday 12 May. This is held in the upstairs function room at the Rugby Club
in Cupar, which is on Provost Wynd, KY15 5HE. The event starts at 7.00 pm, and
is free to members and their families. We will have the usual quiz in teams,
where there are questions aimed at various ages from tinies to adults. These
quizzes, which are mostly not about swimming, and which are put together by
Commonwealth Games Team Manager Gina Logan, have proven to be great fun in the
past. We hope this will appeal to all members, especially including those who
swim on Saturday mornings and their parents/carers. Parents please do come along
and meet other parents and get involved in the social side of the club.
Gina Logan will present the Fife League trophy to last year's boys 13 & over
team, who won this section of the competition. The quiz will be followed by the
presentation of medals and trophies to those who were in the top three of each
event in the distance championships held earlier this year. A snack supper will
be served, and then the evening will be rounded off by a Disco. Under-18s are
not permitted in the downstairs bar of the rugby club. For safety the car-park
and road outside the rugby club are off limits to club members during the
evening except for arrival and departure. Please would those planning to
come fill in the form that has been emailed to them or given to them on paper,
and return it to the Club Table?
Timekeepers course -
added 4.5.06
On 25 May we are running a short course for timekeepers. Please would parents
consider signing up for this so we can meet our obligations for meets at home
and away?
Swimming Teacher Successes -
added 4.5.06
We are delighted to report that all those who recently attended the level one
teachers course passed their assessment. We thank them all for their
commitment and send our congratulations.
SPAM -
added 27.4.06
In recent days there seems to have been a lot of SPAM doing the rounds
supposedly coming from this swimming club. I believe that this is nothing
to do with us, but is the usual problem of spammers trying to hide their tracks.
Committee Meeting -
added 23.4.06
The next meeting of the club's management committee is on Monday 24 April.
Fife Leagues -
added 16.4.06, amended 23.4.06
Our swimmers did well in the latest round of the Fife Leagues, held in
Glenrothes on 23 April. Congratulations to all swimmers, but particularly
to Katie, Alastair, Eilidh, Kirsty, David, Simone, and Brittany for breaking the
speed flash times for their events in the novice league.
Triathalon -
added 16.4.06
The local triathalon club sends our members thanks for the help they received
with running the swimming part of the recent traithalon, which attracted
athletes from across Scotland. Our members may wish to consider entering
for the Tri-club's more biathalon gentle event in a few weeks time. Details are on
the board.
SASA President visit -
added 16.4.06
We are pleased that the new President of the Scottish Amateur Swimming
Association accepted our invitation to visit us last weekend. We had a
useful discussion on some of the issues facing small clubs. One topic of
conern is the money that we are obliged pay to SASA for each swimmer and each
poolside helper, and what benefits these people and/or the club get in return
from SASA-HQ for this charge.
Fife Leagues -
added 16.4.06
The first session of the Fife Leagues were swum at Glenrothes on 19 March.
Our swimmers gained an amazing six speed flashes in the Novice League. In
the senior league our swimmers had 15 swims, with 6 being personal best times.
An additional highlight of this meet was witnessing the breaking of a world
swimming record by a swimmer with a disability.
EGM -
added 16.4.06
We attempted to hold an extraordinary general meeting to change the club's
constitution to a new version required by the Scottish Amateur Swimming
Association, but not enough members turned up for the meeting to be quorate.
We will try again at the AGM in the autumn.
Club Distance Championships -
added 5.3.06, amended 16.4.06
The annual distance championships (200 m and 400 m freestyle and (age group
dependent) 100 m and 200 m Individual Medley) were held this March. All
club members for 2006 were entitled to enter. It was good to see the
enthusiasm and hard work of our swimmers in these events.
Fife Leagues -
added 5.3.06
The Fife Leagues that are swum at the Glenrothes pool have undergone some
revision. The Novice League stays pretty much the same as before, but with
the addition of a longer race at each day. The Premier and Intermediate
Leagues have been merged into one Fife league. We hope to be entering
teams in both the Novice League and the Fife League, in most age groups.
The dates for these events are now on our events pages.
Annual Membership and Training Fees -
added 13.1.06
The first mailing of the year will go out shortly, and will include the
membership renewal forms and the forms for training fees. There is no
change in the price of the annual club membership fee (included in which is the
payment that we must make on your behalf to the Scottish Amateur Swimming
Association). The Saturday quarterly training fees that pay for the hire
of the pool on Saturday mornings have no change in cost, but we now ask people
to set up a monthly standing order rather than quarterly as in the past.
The training fees for the evening squads stay at the same monthly rate, but we
ask that they be paid for twelve months of the year, rather than the previous
eleven.
Happy New Year! -
added 13.1.06
We hope everyone had a merry Christmas, and a good celebration on Hogmanay.
Happy New Year to all. Training sessions started again this week, and it
has been good seeing our swimmers back in the pool. The first committee
meeting of the year will be held on Monday 16.
Holiday Closure -
added 4.12.05
The final sessions for this calendar year will be Wednesday 14 December for
lifesaving, Thursday 15 December for evening swimmers, and Saturday 17 December
for the Saturday swimmers. The club will restart sessions from Tuesday 10
January. We hope everyone has a great festive season.
Club Championships -
amended 4.12.05
The championships were a great success, with many excellent swims in all age
groups. These swimmers were cheered on by enthusiastic supporters on the
poolside. During the championships we presented cheques for £600 to both
Riding for the Disabled and Rachel House, from the proceeds of the sponsored
swim earlier in the year. These representatives then kindly presented some
of the trophies and medals to swimmers in one of the strokes. Honorary
life membership was presented to John Wishart and Dave McLean in recognition of
many years of hard work for the club. After the championships we had a
pool disco and a barbecue.
Disclosure Scotland -
added 4.12.05
As part of our conditions of let of the swimming pool, in the future all adults
on poolside will have had to have gone through a disclosures check to ensure
that they have not been restricted from working with children. We
apologise to members for the conflicting information received during the last
six months, but the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association has now changed to
take the same view as Fife Council on this one, and will process these checks
for club members at no charge. We expect our child protection officer to
be able to sign these forms to say that she has checked that (for example) the
passport shown as proof of identity for the form matches the person submitting
the form.
Assistant Teacher's Course -
added 4.12.05
Thanks to all our members who have put in so much time and effort on this
course, and to the swimmers who did so well in their lessons and sessions.
Thanks also to Gina Logan for running this course.
Ceilidh -
added 13.11.05
Tickets are now on sale for £5 each from the Club Table for the Club Ceilidh. This is
to be in the Cupar Corn Exchange on 17 December.
Winning Team in Fife Leagues -
added 13.11.05
In this year's Fife Leagues we had many excellent swims with speed flashes and
personal bests galore. Of particular note was our 13 and over boys team in
the intermediate league who got first place overall. Congrats to all
involved.

Coaches, and Convenors. Lesley Jayasekera was elected as President,
Caroline Clark as Vice President, Gillian Hogarth as Secretary, and Bruce
Sinclair as secretary. A full committee was elected. Thanks were
given to the swimmers and to all those who have helped with the club over the
last year, with particular thanks to those who are retiring from the committee.
Frosties Distance Swim -
added 7.10.05
During the normal sessions on 7 and 8 October members will have the

soon. Interested people please sign up on the club notice board.
Club President and Coach -
added 7.10.05
At a recent committee meeting Katrina Watson stood down from her post as
President in order to let Lesley Jayasekera take over in that role in the run-up
to the AGM. Katrina was thanked for all the work she had done as President. At
the start of the summer joint-chief coach Dave McLean resigned in order to work
at a larger club. We also send our thanks to Dave for all his input. Lesley now
becomes the sole chief coach, supported by the other teachers and coaches.
Eric Muir Memorial Gala -
added 7.10.05
There was a great atmosphere at the pool for this event. Cupar and Step
Rock drew on points overall. Both managed some very strong cheering on of
their swimmers too!
Summer Season -
added 10/08/05
The club's evening training sessions do not continue over most of the school
holidays, though the Saturday morning sessions do keep going. Evening
sessions re-start on Thursday 11 August when there is a consolidated session for
Junior and Intermediate squad swimmers from 7pm to 8pm, and the Development
Squad 8 - 9.30 pm. From Monday 15 August all sessions should run at their

short course. This is on 16 June, and will start in the clubhouse (behind
the pool) at 7 pm.
Fife Leagues -
added 29/05/05
We had teams at the Glenrothes-based Fife Leagues today. There were many
good swims by our members. One particular highlight was in the novice
league 10&11 years age group, where all four Cupar swimmers in the butterfly
events broke the time needed to gain a speed flash!
Real Novices Gala at Kinross -
added 7/5/05, updated 28/5/05
John Wishart selected a team of swimmers from (mostly) the Saturday morning
sessions to swim for the club in a friendly gala at Kinross on Saturday 28 May.
A full team of swimmers turned up at the event, along with supporting people who
helped with timekeeping, team managing, etc. This was a good hour and a
half of swimming, with some strong swims, and possibly even stronger cheering!
Overall, Cupar & District came second of the five teams competing.
Friday fun gala -
added 28/05/05
We were very pleased at the large turnout for this fun gala. This was an
"all relays" gala. But while there were some traditional events such as
the front crawl relay, we also had a backwards woggle race, a football race, an
egg and spoon race, and other curious events. We had five groups from
within the club competing, and each group put in a team of eight swimmers for
each relay. The "Dolphins" team won the event, but more importantly there
was lots of fun swimming races for everyone who took part.
Saturday May and June timetable -
added 7/5/05
John plans the following main themes for the Saturday morning squads for the
next few weeks:-
7 May Breaststroke; 14 May Butterfly; 21 May Butterfly timing; 28 May Starts and

under girls category. Congratulations to them all.
Club helpers course -
added 7/5/05
We plan to run a short course for parents wishing to help on the poolside during
club sessions (particularly Saturday mornings). Participants must be 14
years old or over. Please sign up on the list on the club notice board.
We are pleased to see so many people signed up already.
Friday fun gala -
added 1/5/05
All our club members are invited to sign up to take part in our annual fun gala
on Friday 20 May. This event is a team based event, with each team containing
swimmers from across all the squads. Races are mostly relay races with
some novelty/difficulty associated with them, be it T-shirts or bricks!
There is a good sized list of people signed up already - any more please get
names up soon.
Fife Swimming Leagues -
added 22/2/05, updated 1/5/05
For a while it looked as though the usual Fife Swimming Leagues may not have
been running this year, but fortunately they are to run. At the first
event of the year on Sunday 24 April we had teams swimming in the novice and
intermediate leagues. A healthy number of personal best times were swum, and
some swimmers obtained speed flashes.
