History
The Lifesaving club started back in 1979, and is run as a section of Cupar
and District Swimming Club. In 1984, Margaret Muir (pictured front left), was
asked to take over the running of the Lifesaving club. She continued to do so
with great success for the next 21 years, turning literally hundreds of people
into Lifesavers over that time.
Margaret, who was short listed for Cupar Citizen of the Year 2005, continues
to give her time freely to help both swimmers and lifesavers develop their
skills.
Contacts
The club is currently run and managed by Mrs. Jill Dawson, RLSS
Trainer/Assessor.

Training
The club is affiliated to the Scottish Eastern branch of the Royal Life
Saving Society, and members currently train for the following RLSS awards:
- Life Support (Life Support 1, 2 and 3),
- Lifesaving (Bronze Medallion, Award of Merit).
Candidates for Bronze Medallion must be at least 13 years old at the time of
assessment.
Benefits of Membership
Training for and gaining these awards teaches vital Lifesaving techniques
including:
C.P.R. - Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (chest compressions/rescue breaths),
Casualty Treatment including Basic First Aid,
Rescuing & Towing Techniques.
The awards are an excellent grounding for Pool Lifeguard and Beach Lifeguard
training, which can both be done locally though not at this club.
Club members also take part in RLSS lifesaving competitions, and some members
are using their lifesaving training to help them achieve Duke of Edinburgh
awards.
Training Times
Training sessions are on Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm, at
Cupar Sports Centre, Cupar, Fife.
From 7.30-8.30pm theory classes take place in the "Clubhouse" behind the
swimming pool, and from 8.30-9.30pm training continues in the pool itself.
New members are always welcome!
