Formed in an earlier millenium we are members of the Morris Ring of England and perform dances from the Cotswold area. Here we are in full flight! The Side The origins of these dances are uncertain, but probably lie in pre-Christian fertility rites. The sticks, bells and handkerchiefs were thought to chase away evil spirits and ensure good returns from the land. Further thoughts on this We take our colours and our 'Fishes' symbol from the Bournemouth Coat of Arms. The fishes are only presented to the wearer when he is considered to be a proficient dancer by the rest of the team. We welcome new members to the team and teach newcomers during the winter practice season -- Thursday nights at the MOOSE INTERNATIONAL HALL, WYCLIFFE ROAD, WINTON -- on the corner of Wycliffe Rd. and Cranmer Rd. If you wish to contact the team call the Squire(leader) Dick on 01202 743404 or the Bagman(secretary) Chris on 01202 553294.
A strange thing happens to morris men in the winter; their
faces turn black and they may wave scimitars about.
