Where is Mallorca?

Well, for those of you who have never been to this marvellous island, it is located approx 2 - 2 and half hours flying time from the UK. It is part of Europe where the currency is the Euro. Using the Euro is as straightforward as using the Pound. You will get 5, 10, 20 and 50 Euro notes. Generally you get between 60-70p for each Euro. So, when buying something, which is say 100 Euro's, two thirds of this would be around its cost in GBP (£70).

Mallorca belongs to a group of three islands called the Balaeric Islands which belong to Spain. On the map below, I have shown Mallorca by placing a red square around it. Mallorca is the largest of the three islands, the other two being Ibiza and Menorca.

Mallorca is one of the most popular tourist destinations, not just for UK tourists, but also for Spanish, German and French tourists. Mallorca is a large island, taking around 3 hours to drive from one coast to another across its middle.

Where is Sa Coma?

Sa Coma is located on the East coast, near Cala Millor, S'lliot and Portocristo. The map below gives a rough diagram of the island of Mallorca, the area of Sa Coma highlighted in red, and expanded on the maps below.

Transfer time from Palma airport is approx 1 - 2 hours depending on how many stops your coach makes. Obviously, get a taxi and it will take less time. The good news is that a new motorway has recently (2006) been built between Palma and Manacor, which is decreasing the time taken to get to the resort.

A note about Palma airport - its HUGE!!! Depending on which airline you fly with, it may take as much as 15 minutes to walk from the gate to the area where you collect your bags. It depends on which airline because cheaper airlines such as Easyjet usually get gates located far away from the luggage area.

If you have problems walking, you will need to arrange transport in the airport - the airport has small electric buggies and moving floors to help you on your way. Speak to your travel agent when you book who can arrange transport around the aiport both in the UK and abroad.
